I’m Barbara. I have always had a passion for helping people feel good. As a nurse my early years were focused on getting sick people back to baseline.  I saw first hand the pain and suffering due to complications from diseases like diabetes, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Witnessing the suffering of the late stages of these chronic diseases lead me to shift my focus to – prevention.

Your health is controlled by your gut. I mean the good bacteria in your intestine. Your food choices can either nourish or destroy your intestinal biome. A well nourished gut is fed a diet with quality fiber from whole grains, beans, fruits, vegetables and nuts; healthy fat and foods made with simple ingredients your grandmother used. A healthy gut will promote a healthy weight, improved mental well-being, and boost your immune system so it can fight against cancer, reduce arterial inflammation and reduce pain associated with many inflammatory diseases. It sounds simple and it is simple.

As a diabetes educator I know a lot about nutrition.  Combined with my love of healthy cooking I know how to help people make better food choices.  As a health coach I also know the emotional, financial and physical obstacles. As an individual who once had prediabetes and made changes in my eating and exercise, I personally know those struggles in making those changes.

I don’t believe in diets.  I believe making lasting changes requires addressing fueling the body, getting regular exercise, managing stress and planning to make all these things happen.  I believe in being open to change, to looking at lifestyle choices with new eyes and to finding the thrill in trying new routines.  I don’t believe in perfection; I believe in finding sustainable lifestyle changes in order to feel better, look better and have a vibrant outlook on life.  We are all on a path to a better destination.  Let me shine some light and offer support as you move along your path.
